Issues pertaining to development are of primary importance to my country.

My own country's development experience demonstrates the value of those approaches.

My nominee to guide the process is the Inter American Development Bank.

My Government is committed to fulfilling the development aspirations of our people.

In short, it explains my country's shortcomings in achieving the Millennium Development Goals.

My delegation attaches the utmost importance to development issues under freedom from want cluster.

Last year, my Government held a national conference to map out a national development strategy based on the principles of sustainable development and closely linked to the Millennium Development Goals.

In other words, our commitment to the Millennium Development Goals will not end with my Government.

My country renews its commitment to work for development, peaceful understanding and social justice in Haiti.

My second impression is that the participants strongly supported the idea of enhancing our efforts to promote development, including making the Millennium Development Goals an operational reality.

My Government recognizes the critical role of environmental issues in the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.

Against that difficult background my country has incorporated the Millennium Development Goals into its anti poverty strategy.

My Government would like to emphasize the need to speed up the pace of the reconstruction and development of country, given the direct relationship between development and security.

My country continues to face critical challenges in determining our political agenda, which in turn affect our development efforts.

My Government feels that comprehensive development must be one of the fundamental and priority objectives of the United Nations.

Let me start by stating that my country, Malawi, has made heroic efforts in meeting the Millennium Development Goals.

My Office continues to provide substantive and secretariat support for the Commission's Working Group on the Right to Development.

As part of our effort to fully attain this objective, my Government has adopted a national policy on gender development.

My Government is now working out a long term plan to increase and improve official development assistance within our means.

My country has begun to review its strategy to ensure that it is fully in line with the Millennium Development Goals.

In transmitting my report I wish to advise that, in accordance with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization's Financial Regulations, I have given the Director General the opportunity to comment on my report.

In my view, this annual meeting is a unique platform for promoting coherence within the system on economic and financial issues in support of the United Nations development agenda, including the Millennium Development Goals.

This week, my colleagues and I published a report called Sustainable Development Goals for People and Planet, which outlines what is required.

During the negotiations, my Special Adviser provided support to the parties and to the mediation by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

My delegation wishes to reaffirm that it is important for the development dimensions of the Doha round of negotiations to be fulfilled.

Over the past five years, my Government has more than doubled Ireland's official development assistance (ODA) from 254 million to 545 million.

I recently had this conversation with my mother, who is in charge of one of the social development and cultural centres in Amman.

My country would have liked to see more ambitious and courageous commitments adopted together with a specific timetable for the development of Africa.

May I also express my sincere gratitude to the Secretary General for his tireless efforts in the cause of peace, democracy and development.

Both meetings are, to my knowledge, the first of their kind. The fact that they are happening at all and, if my Beijing experience is any guide, in a constructive, problem solving spirit is an encouraging development.

Human security at the community and individual level, as mentioned in my report In larger freedom towards development, security and human rights for all (A 59 2005) is important for durable peace and sustainable development in Africa.

My country will strengthen its commitment to close coordination with multilateral organizations and donor partners to fight poverty and to promote sustainable human development.

The promotion of development, as well as the concepts of the responsibility to protect and human security, are also key elements for my country.

This is a result of a good partnership that has been forged between my Government, our development partners, civil society and the private sector.

Before concluding my remarks, let me underscore the fact that the Millennium Development Goals present a serious challenge to both developing and developed countries.

My Government embraces the holistic definition of collective security, which strongly affirms the connections between peace, development, human rights and the rule of law.

We also welcome the videolink contribution of Mr. James Wolfensohn, whose personal commitment to development and poverty eradication is greatly valued in my country.

I have the honour to present to the thirtieth session of the Industrial Development Board my interim report on the accounts of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization for the period 1 January 2004 to 31 December 2004.

My statement will bear on the following points a few considerations on the Millennium Development Goals and on how we have sought to implement them in our country financing for development and combating poverty and Security Council reform.

In my country, we have incorporated the Millennium Development Goals into our national development plan and into a discussion project we have named Visión Colombia Segundo Centenario , which will make it possible to achieve the Goals by 2015.

Ms. Mchiela (Malawi) Let me begin by aligning my delegation with the statement made by Mozambique on behalf of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

That inspired my own country to adopt a new policy according to which the Government must work for sustainable and equitable development in all fields.

My delegation wishes to take this opportunity to reaffirm its support for the initiatives taken by the United Nations for all round development of youth so that they become key agents for social change, economic development and technological innovation.
