The main challenge for the Assembly is to forge onward, keeping in mind that the road ahead is full of seemingly insurmountable challenges.

Pursuant to resolution 58 316 and in order to facilitate the work of the Main Committees, the General Assembly decided to allocate item 116 to all the Main Committees for the sole purpose of considering and taking action on their respective tentative programmes of work.

There had been a significant improvement in that regard, the rate of compliance having increased from 40 per cent at the main part of the fifty seventh session of the General Assembly to 50 per cent at the main part of the fifty eighth session.
