Approximately 56 per cent of the active participants in the Fund were employed by the United Nations.

The number of participants in the Fund and the number of periodic benefits in award continued to increase as of 31 December 1992, there were about 62,000 active participants and 34,000 periodic benefits in award.

Only persons who are employees of the founders of pension funds may be participants of pension plans of the closed pension fund.

The pensionable remuneration for staff members who become participants in the Pension Fund shall be set out in appendix A to these Rules.

Its administration is supervised by the tripartite United Nations Joint Staff Pension Board, on which the Governing Bodies, the Executive Heads and the Pension Fund participants of the Fund apos s major organizations are equally represented.

The above charges have been allocated to each fund based on the total credits due to participants in each fund at 31 December 1993 with the exception of (a) the travel costs of Staff Provident Fund Representatives and (b) staff costs incurred in the fields of operation.

7. Notes that the Fund has transferred to the Social Security Fund of the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics the actuarial value of the pension rights accrued by individual former participants, as required under the Agreements

The Pension Fund, as with most large financial institutions, relies on its computer systems to deliver accurate, timely and cost effective services to its participants and beneficiaries.

These consultations were seen by many participants as a positive step in facilitating agreement on further guidance to the GEF on how to operationalize the LDC Fund.

Participants from ECOWAS and its Fund for Solidarity and Economic Development as well as from the Niger and Togo were also trained in the use of PROPSPIN.

Representations had also been received from participants who had re entered the Fund after having transferred their UNJSPF pension rights under the agreements, requesting that they should have the right to restore their prior periods of contributory service to the Fund.

The Chief will alert supervisors when the Fund is exposed to unwarranted risk, or to issues affecting the safety and custody of the assets, disclosure to Pension Fund participants, disclosure of potential conflict of interest and privacy protection of non public information.
