Action Coordination in the Operational Programmes of the 3rd Community Support Framework

The ΕΥSΕΚΤ (Special Service for the Coordination of Actions of the European Social Fund), as the authority competent to coordinate actions of the European Social Fund and monitor the effectiveness of interventions of the European Social Fund, has undertaken the responsibility of promoting gender equality issues in the actions of the Operational Programmes.

Will More Integration Save Europe s Social Model?

Positive actions for equality that were included and implemented in all Operational Programmes have absorbed 237.285.686 of the European Social Fund contribution.

FIGURES CONCERNING WOMEN'S UNEMPLOYMENT AND EMPLOYMENT The national policies for the abolition of exclusion from the labour market are expressed in the National Action Plan for Employment valid at a time and the National Action Plan for Social Integration, and are co financed by the European Social Fund (E.S.F.

Gender segregation in the labour market, including the failure to promote women to senior posts, is one of the points highlighted in the European Social Fund's EQUAL programme, from which ESF subsidies are available.

The old European social model is in tatters.

The government has established the National Social Security Insurance Fund to provide social assistance for employees in the private sector and elsewhere.

There were chapters in the National Action Plan for Employment, for instance, dealing with male female employment, integration trends, improvement and support of family networks and use of the European Social Fund to achieve equality between men and women.

Supporters of Europe s social model claim that what distinguishes it is the importance placed on social cohesion.

It also needs to speak with one voice on matters of foreign policy in order to play a more important international role in solving major conflicts and shaping a more peaceful and balanced world order. Finally, the EU needs to promote social cohesion while adapting Europe s social model to globalization s challenges.

In 2004, the Territory received 13.75 million from the European Development Fund.

Related to this is the idea that only a strong EU can save the European social model.

But this is misleading the European social model is, in fact, part and parcel of the identity of the EU member states more than of the EU per se.

The reason is that other financial resources are available (i.e. under municipal labour market policy and grants from the European Social Fund (ESF)) for the direct promotion of labour force participation and economic independence.

The EU is, at last, beginning to understand that betting its future on services will not be enough to safeguard the European socioeconomic model.

The common elements that are usually identified with the European social model are a quest for equality and a strong welfare state.

Like the NATO common fund, EU contributions are largely based on GDP.

But the Union's regulatory authority is likely to be accepted by the accession countries only if it remains tied to the redistributionist ethic at the heart of the EU's social model.
