IIA standards require that internal auditors should make adequate use of technology based audit techniques to enable them, inter alia, to perform manually intensive tasks more economically and efficiently.

The IIA standards require a quality assurance and improvement programme to be developed and maintained, to cover all aspects of the internal audit activity and to continuously monitor its effectiveness.

Considerable progress has since been made with, inter alia, the application of the Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), improving audit plans and working papers, quality assurance, as well as with the acquisition of additional skills and resources.
