The stalemate we are witnessing in the Conference on Disarmament and the Disarmament Commission is a clear reflection of the situation in the world of disarmament.

The CD is the only multilateral negotiating forum in the field of disarmament.

The CD stands for multilateralism in the area of disarmament and arms control.

As such, we cherish the importance of the Conference on Disarmament as the appropriate forum for the discussion of disarmament issues.

The Conference on Disarmament is already going through a period of chronic impasse and the Disarmament Commission is in a state of paralysis.

Bolivia shared the growing concern at the stalemate in the Conference on Disarmament and the United Nations Disarmament Commission, which had not been able to reach consensus on a substantive agenda for several years.

The Conference on Disarmament must continue to serve as the negotiating forum for disarmament and non proliferation treaties.

That goal can be achieved through the Conference on Disarmament or a special session of the Disarmament Commission.

Other disarmament machinery and frameworks, including the Conference on Disarmament and the Disarmament Commission, which are currently stagnating, are also facing profound challenges.
