Its business leaders will hunker down and try to move their wealth out of the companies they run for fear of high future corporate taxes.

In our recent research, we studied the distribution of pay among top executives in publicly traded companies in the United States.

Beyond Silicon Valley, few senior corporate executives boast technical expertise in the products that their companies produce. American boardrooms are filled with MBAs, especially from Harvard, while firms in the rest of the developed world (with the possible exception of Germany) seem to prefer professional managers over technical or scientific talent.

The Big 10 are also not taking sufficient responsibility to ensure that their larger scale farm suppliers pay a decent living wage to their workers.

Senior executives of multinational companies tend to have pre conceived notions of China as just another developing country, and thus evaluate Chinese officials by comparing them with those in other developing countries.

A senior official of a Chinese company has said that, even though rare earth exports have been restricted, Japanese companies can secure their supply by launching operations in China.

But they should realize that large foreign shareholders in financial firms may be far less effective than locals in coaxing central banks to extend massive, no strings attached credit lines.

Had such compensation structures been in place at Bear Stearns and Lehman, their top executives would not have been able to derive such large amounts of performance based compensation for managing the firms in the years leading up to their collapse.
