Address by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan at the international symposium Kazakhstan Strengthening International Cooperation for Peace and Security

Mr. Larry Ekin, Chairman of the North American Coordinating Committee for NGOs on the Question of Palestine served as moderator of the Symposium.

Mr. Kéba Birane Cissé (Senegal), Chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, chaired the opening and closing sessions of the Symposium.

The United Nations Observer Mission in South Africa was represented at the Symposium. Further references to the Symposium are made in the annual report of the Special Committee against Apartheid a and in the report of the Symposium. b

The first symposium was held in Amman in March 2005 8 the second will be held in Beirut in December.

The symposium will be chaired by Ambassador Peter Jankowitsch of Austria.

The objectives of the symposium are therefore educational as well as policy oriented

The annual IISL ECSL space law symposium was held in Vienna on 29 March 2004, during the forty third session of the Legal Subcommittee.

7. The non governmental organizations participating in the Symposium adopted the following declaration

The programme for the Symposium had already been approved by the Committee and preparations were proceeding.

The Committee also noted that participants at the symposium had developed a document entitled the Graz Vision , which summarized the findings and recommendations of the symposium and which had been put into practice in the preparation of the pilot project in the Lake Chad Basin.

The Proceedings were published and widely disseminated by mail in France.

48. The Symposium was attended by representatives of 58 non governmental organizations and 15 Governments.

The Symposium was organized by the OAU Scientific, Technical and Research Commission.

Representatives and sponsors from other countries and even from other regions will attend.
