I m a big advocate for investing in health and development around the world.

They generate more investment in human capital health and education.

Continuing to invest in global health makes sense both in terms of lives and dollars saved. Healthy people are more productive.

The Framework document outlines financial investment targets for each area health and nutrition are to double and investments in basic education, child protection and HIV AIDS are to quadruple by 2005.

And sustained government investment in public health is reflected in steady improvement in India s infant mortality rate, maternal mortality rate, and life expectancy.

Yet, as stated by Secretary General Kofi Annan in his message to the ministerial segment of the Fifth Asian and Pacific Population Conference (Bangkok, 16 December 2002) The Millennium Development Goals, particularly the eradication of extreme poverty and hunger, cannot be achieved if questions of population and reproductive health are not squarely addressed.

It also recognizes the importance of the development of human capital in Afghanistan through ongoing investments in health and education and enhancing the productive capacity of rural communities.

Most dictionaries define health as the absence of disease. But, in those terms, it is not a compelling proposition for people to invest in health.

Fourth, increased investment in the country s social safety net includes not only universal health and social insurance, but also expanded housing subsidies.

African countries have already identified their high priority investments in health, education, agriculture, and infrastructure (including roads, power, and internet connectivity).
