With the construction of the barrier, Israel would in fact annex most of the aquifer system in the West Bank (which provided 51 per cent of the West Bank's water resources) and separate communities from their land and water resources, thereby depriving them of all means of subsistence and forcing many Palestinians living in those areas to leave, as 6,000 to 8,000 residents of Qalqilia had already done.
