The Statistical Commission mandated the beginning of the revision in 1999 following its review of the report entitled Evaluation of progress in the implementation of International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities, Revision 3 and the Central Product Classification, Version 1.0 (E CN.3 1999 16).
