Strengthening international cooperation in order to prevent the risk of the Internet being used to commit drug related crime or to promote illicit drug use

This builds on current Government initiatives to address areas such as sexual and reproductive health, arthritis and illicit drug use.

It reaffirmed that terrorists must be prevented from making use of other criminal activities such as transnational organized crime, illicit drugs and drug trafficking, money laundering and illicit arms trafficking.

With the cooperation of the Inter American Drug Abuse Control Commission, the National Commission against Illicit Drug Use had developed a national anti drug plan for 2002 2007 that was aimed at balancing supply reduction and demand reduction efforts.

Recognizing that the use of new technologies and electronic media, including the Internet, poses new opportunities for and challenges to international cooperation in countering drug abuse and illicit production and trafficking,

Bearing in mind the interface among violence, criminality, drug trafficking, the illicit trade in diamonds, terrorism and illicit trafficking in small arms and light weapons,

Also requests the Secretary General to take the necessary measures to enable producer countries and transit countries to share and to make best use of information obtained from satellite communications and remote sensing in their fight against illicit drug crop cultivation and drug trafficking

In June 2004, the Office published the two volume World Drug Report 2004, which now merges the former Global Illicit Drug Trends with the World Drug Report and will be published annually.

Likewise, the INCB report stresses once again how illicit drug traffic has links to organized crime.

Such action should be combined with efforts to raise awareness of the ATS problem, to reduce illicit drug demand and to prevent drug experimentation by youth.

Work will continue on the development of indexes on drugs and crime, including the global illicit drug index initiated in 2005 (see World Drug Report 2005).

(c) Action Plan on International Cooperation on the Eradication of Illicit Drug Crops and on Alternative Development

The cultivation of illicit drug crops remains a serious impediment to the sustainable development of some countries.

Its purpose was to block illicit drug trafficking on the route Afghanistan Russia East and West Europe.

We intend to continue carrying out joint operations to cut illicit drug trafficking on a regular basis.

During the period under review, UNODC undertook a major overhaul of its World Drug Report and Global Illicit Drug Trend publications merging the two publications into one annual, two volume publication entitled World Drug Report.
