There are no simple solutions, however, and no single method for dealing with the impact of the illicit small arms trade.

The numerous challenges and threats posed by the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons are serious, with devastating consequences.

The Acting President Draft resolution XXVIII is entitled The illicit trade in small arms and light weapons in all its aspects .

The Council is strongly encouraged to continue its efforts aimed at identifying the links between the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons and the illicit exploitation of natural and other resources, as well as the trade in illegal drugs, and to develop innovative strategies to address this phenomenon.

We welcome, too, the work that the Agency is engaged in with member States to address the issue of illicit nuclear trade.
