Finally, both inflation and restructuring put some of the burden on non resident bondholders (through exchange rate depreciation and the direct reduction of the value of assets, respectively).

The value of China s assets as future claims on real resources has already been diluted by dollar depreciation, and calls in the US for inflating away America s debt burden portend a further decline.

With slowing world economic growth, US financing needs could cause a drop in investors confidence in the future of US based assets, precipitating a sharp dollar depreciation.
