The citrus industry is the largest fresh fruit exporting industry in Australia.

Citrus fruits are the highest value fruit crop in terms of international trade.

Around 70 of the world's total citrus production is grown in the Northern Hemisphere, in particular countries around the Mediterranean and the United States, although Brazil is also one of the largest citrus producers.

Founded in 1907 as the UC Citrus Experiment Station, Riverside pioneered research in biological pest control and the use of growth regulators responsible for extending the citrus growing season in California from four to nine months.

It is the commercial center for a region where olives and citrus fruit are grown.

The fertile soil of the valleys produces a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, including breadfruit, citrus, sugar cane, watermelons, bananas, yams and beans.

Other important crops are tea, citrus fruits, and noncitrus fruits, which account for 18.3 percent, 7.7 percent, and 8.4 percent of Georgia's agricultural output, respectively.

During the period of British rule, the main economic sectors in the village were fishing and agriculture, particularly fruit cultivation, including bananas, citrus, olives, and figs.

In 1944 45 a total of 2,486 dunums of village land was used for citrus or bananas, 14,018 was planted with cereals while 226 dunums were irrigated or used for orchards.

In the West Bank, the Israeli army and the settlers had uprooted hundreds of thousands of olive, citrus and other kinds of fruit trees and destroyed 806 wells and 296 agricultural warehouses.
