4. Looks forward to the report requested in paragraph 6 of its resolution 54 16 concerning progress made in the implementation of the system of follow up to the recommendations of the Unit

This latest report by the Secretary General is in follow up to a report that was taken up by the Advisory Committee in November 2004 (A 59 449).

At COP 6, the Parties had considered the first report on the follow up to decision 8 COP.4.

As a follow up to the last assessment of 13 June 2005, the present report provides an updated assessment of the progress made towards implementing the completion strategy of the Tribunal.

In response to a concern expressed about the lack of follow up to the report by the relevant task force, she referred to the difficulties presented by religious susceptibilities.

To that end, the search for other possibilities should continue, such as the pilot project mentioned in the report, assuming that its final evaluation were to yield positive results.

It invites the State party to use this framework to ensure follow up to the present concluding observations and recommendations and to seek additional technical assistance from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The present report considers progress made in following up on the immediate outcome of the International Year of Volunteers in the main areas highlighted in the two General Assembly resolutions mentioned above from the perspective of the Year's four main objectives.

Given the support of the Government of Iraq for this proposal and in view of the volume of inquiries to the Committee for the cooperation coming from Member States seeking to follow up on the findings of its final report, I have decided to accede to this request.
