In paragraph 8 of decision VII 13, the Conference of the Parties agreed that the methodology for further definition of low persistent organic pollutant POP contents, levels of destruction and irreversible transformation should be included in the work programme of the Open ended Working Group for 2005 2006.

The subsequent work reflects the requirements of Article 16, and the recommendation of the workshop that existing monitoring programmes and mechanisms should be used to the extent possible.

A global monitoring programme on POPspersistent organic pollutants (GMP) could be established to link together existing national, regional and global activities on monitoring and provide recommendations for the elements to be contained within such a global programme.
