Brunei Darussalam supports Security Council Resolution 1540 (2004), which seeks to curb non State actors from manufacturing, acquiring, possessing, developing, transporting, transferring or using nuclear, chemical and biological materials and weapons.

Under the CWA strict controls are applied to ensure that the chemicals listed in Schedule 1 of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) are only used for certain permitted purposes.

The 168 Member States of the OPCW implement the Chemical Weapons Convention by declaring, securing, and destroying, under international on site verification, any chemical weapons stockpiles.

The European Union believes that the provisions of the Chemical Weapons Convention must be strictly applied.

Some conventions, such as the CWC, have a full organization to implement and verify their provisions.

We consider that the text of the draft resolution on CWC implementation is well balanced.

On 12 February 2009, Iraq officially became the 186th State Party to the Chemical Weapons Convention.

As a State party to the Chemical Weapons Convention, Kazakhstan is strongly committed to its obligations under the Convention.
