The proposals would result in the elimination of 360 core posts.

Abolition of the D 2 post (A 48 947, para. 12)

This has resulted in the elimination of 66 General Service posts.

In the Professional and above category, it is proposed that one Assistant Secretary General post be deleted with a corresponding addition of one D 2 post.

In that connection, it was felt that it was not desirable to go ahead with the proposed elimination of 19 posts in Conference Services.

Gender Issues

As reflected in the table below, a total of 97 posts are proposed to be abolished, 87 new posts would be added, and 2 positions previously funded by general temporary assistance would be converted to established posts.

At the same time, management of the operation has been rationalized, resulting in the abolition of one General Service (Other level) post responsible for fulfilling individual sales orders.

One post of Field Officer will be discontinued on 31 December 1994, and two posts of Programme Officer and Resettlement Assistant are foreseen for discontinuation on 30 June 1995.

Financial resources

The Committee requests that UNMIL review its structure and look into the possibility of abolishing one director level post.

It is proposed to abolish one P 3 post, which was identified for redeployment during 1992 1993 in the context of the treatment of vacancies.

In addition, it is proposed, in the context of the new treatment of vacancies, to abolish one post at the D 2 level that had been identified for redeployment during 1992 1993.
