The President I congratulate the States that have been elected members of the Security Council, and I thank the tellers for their assistance in the election.

We gratefully accept the offer of the Government of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay to host the Sixteenth Ibero American Summit of Heads of State and Government in 2006.

We also gratefully accept the offer of the Government of the Republic of Chile to host the Seventeenth Ibero American Summit of Heads of State and Government in 2007.

I would also like to thank you and the other members of the Council for having given me this opportunity to address you on the peace process in Côte d'Ivoire.

18. Decides to organize the third and final session of the Preparatory Committee at the ministerial level in Indonesia, and accepts with gratitude the generous offer of the Government of Indonesia to host it

I thank Mr. Nebojsa Covic, President of the Coordination Centre of Serbia and Montenegro and of the Republic of Serbia for Kosovo, for his presence and for his statement.

I also thank the Ministers from France, Japan and Tanzania, who came from their capitals to be here today to lend their support and influence to this project.

I am particularly grateful to Ambassador Wolfgang Petritsch, President of the Summit, and his Bureau for the tireless efforts they made to ensure that the Conference was a resounding success.

Mr. Oshima (Japan) My delegation is very grateful that the Danish delegation has taken the initiative to organize this open debate on post conflict peacebuilding.

I thank the Co Chairs of the various plenary consultations, the Committee Chairs and others who have worked so hard to bring about results of which we should be proud.

I thank the G 8 leaders who, in their Gleneagles Summit, agreed to increase annual aid flows and cancel the debts of least developed countries.

Apart from the road link via Iran, for whose cooperation her country was very grateful, the only way out of the blockade was the State subsidized air shuttle.

I also thank Mr. Søren Jessen Petersen for his briefing and for the work that he and the personnel of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) are doing on the ground.

Mr. Hannesson (Iceland) Mr. President, like so many colleagues before me, I should like to start by gratefully expressing our appreciation for the thoughtful report of the Secretary General entitled In larger freedom .

Among others, special gratitude goes to the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, the League of Arab States and the European Union, as well as to the Government of Kenya, for patiently and generously hosting and paying for our long peace process.

But let me underline that the humanitarian situation in Darfur also requires the close attention of the international community, and I thank Mr. Egeland for his update on the situation in Darfur.

The role of the Security Council in moving Kosovo from a holding operation to a sustainable and lasting solution is crucial, and I thank its members for their support.

I thank you, all the members of the CD, for your support and cooperation, in particular, as I said on Tuesday, those who have made themselves available in case we did have Special Coordinators, and also the five remaining CD Presidents for the year 2005.

At the outset, let me thank the Security Council and the Secretariat for the comprehensive report on the work of the Security Council during the past year, and in particular Ambassador Andrey Denisov, the current President of the Council, for his clear and informative introduction of the report.

1. Decides to organize the ten year review of progress achieved in the implementation of the outcome of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in 2002 at the summit level to reinvigorate the global commitment to sustainable development, and accepts with gratitude the generous offer of the Government of South Africa to host the summit

Thirdly, outside the United Nations and its related organizations, the World Bank and other international financial institutions play an indispensable role in peacebuilding, and I thank the President of the World Bank, Mr. Wolfensohn, for his elucidating observations delivered via videolink.

On behalf of those countries, I would like to express our appreciation to Romania for having convened this open debate on women, peace and security a priority issue for the Network and to thank the panellists today, who have spoken with such conviction.

I thank Judge Pocar and Judge Erik Møse, as well as Prosecutors Carla Del Ponte and Hassan Bubacar Jallow, for their thorough reports on the level of progress achieved in the work of the two Courts, as well as on the still prevailing difficulties and the current efforts to tackle them.

Recalling also its resolution 55 245 A of 21 March 2001, on convening an International Conference on Financing for Development, in which it accepted with gratitude the generous offer of Mexico to host the Conference, which is to be held at Monterrey from 18 to 22 March 2002,

I want to thank members for the work that they have done those who laboured in the Fifth Committee, as always to the very last minute before the holidays, as I recall from my years as Permanent Representative, and, of course, all those who were involved in making it possible for us to adopt the budget for the next two years.
