The emerging diversity of household types includes an increasing number of households headed by women, as well as those containing several generations.

Data relating to the poverty structure of households according to the sex of the head of household reveal significant differences between different major regions and between households headed by women and households headed by men.

In both 1991 and 2000 single mother households accounted for more than 88 of all single parent households.

Data from the 2001 demographic and health survey indicate that the percentage of households headed by women is higher among households that report migrant members.
