Subsequently a series of initiatives have been implemented to strengthen the management support to UNODC in terms of financial monitoring and control, harmonizing internal procedures and systems, and strengthening field offices' administrative capacity.

The Group of Eight (G 8) leaders at their 2005 summit in Gleneagles, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, highlighted the importance of South South cooperation, especially in regard to international support for the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD).

In that connection, I wish to recognize very concretely and once again the enormous efforts undertaken by Russia in its destruction programme, as well as the great support Russia is receiving from the Group of Eight through the Global Partnership.
