The Educational Outreach Section, through innovative public and private partnerships, has strengthened the connections between DPI and educators, students and the public.

Within the Library, a new section, Knowledge Sharing Services, has been created. This section will provide internal information management consulting services to Secretariat offices and permanent missions to help their staff make better use of information management tools and methods.

The Department comprises the Protection Operations Support Section, Protection Policy and Legal Advice Section, Protection Capacity Section, Resettlement Section and Protection Information Section.

To that end, the Department's website was revitalized and will continue to be developed, with a special section for security professionals.

Comment by the Administration. The internal audit section continues to monitor the implementation of recommendations and the follow up action of the geographic divisions in regard to the implementation of internal audit recommendations.

OIOS considers that the Treaty Section has documented its experience, as recommended, and that this documentation, supplemented by presentations by staff of the Treaty Section, should be used in management training courses within the United Nations.

At the global level, the Partners and Youth Section will coordinate activities which support the participation of youth partners in major policy forums such as the Governing Council and the World Urban Forum.

Comment by the Administration. The audits of Treasury and the relevant specialist areas have been included in the 2005 audit plan of the Internal Audit Section of the Office of Audit and Performance Reviews.

Comment by the Administration. The Finance Section has instituted measures to ensure that the accounts receivable and accounts payable are separated and posted in the respective accounts when first entering transactions in the accounting system.

The Disaster, Post Conflict and Safety Section and the Urban Governance Section will be in liaison with the Partners and Youth Section to advance the development of an information inventory source book on youth.

During the period under review, the Witnesses and Victims Support Section, which since 2000 had been divided into two Sections, was merged into a single Section.

After the merger of DQS with the Management Systems Solutions (MSS) division of the American product certification body Underwriters Laboratories Inc. in March 2008, DQS UL Group is currently one of the world's largest system certification bodies.

Comment by the Administration. The Office of Internal Oversight Services has recruited a new chief of section who has experience in financial services and pension fund issues, and is in the process of recruiting a pension fund audit specialist.
