Participants held a meeting with the Expanded Bureau of the sixty first session of the Commission on Human Rights.

As part of the United Nations Decade for Human Rights, a human rights course had been introduced in all schools and universities.

The fourth inter committee meeting of the human rights treaty bodies was held at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva from 20 to 22 June 2005.

The Peoples Decade for Human Rights Association provides empowerment, knowledge, and critical awareness of human rights and encourages collaboration in human rights learning.

Organize a conference on the promotion of human rights concepts to be timed to coincide with this year's anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

OHCHR supported the holding of the first in country training workshop on human rights investigations techniques in Sri Lanka.

An independent evaluation of HURIST is planned for mid 2005, along with a lessons learned workshop concerning human rights based country programme reviews.

Consultation to articulate effective mechanisms to protect the rights of all people to maintain their cultural identity, while facilitating their integration into their social environment.

On 23 June, the chairpersons held their seventh joint meeting with the mandate holders of the special procedures of the Commission on Human Rights.

The Office collaborated closely with UNICEF on the implementation of the United Nations Decade of Human Rights Education, 1995 2004, which will come to an end this year.

Of particular note in that regard were the forum on Arab women held in Damascus in 2003 and Syria's support for the initiatives of the Arab Women's Organization aimed at improving the situation of Syrian women.

An expert meeting on human rights indicators had been held in Turku, Finland, from 10 to 13 March 2005, organized jointly by OHCHR and the Institute for Human Rights of Åbo Akademi University with the support of the Government of Finland.

27. Decides to endorse the request by the Human Rights Committee to hold an additional week of meetings at Geneva in 2002 in order to reduce further the existing backlog

The round table aimed to strengthen the capacity of national machineries and NHRIs to promote and protect the human rights of women through the development of institutional links and joint strategies.

The observance of 2004 Human Rights Day, a joint effort of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and DPI, coincided with a General Assembly plenary session to mark the end of the United Nations Decade for Human Rights Education (1995 2004).
