Now let's think about the hyperbola.

So those are both points on this hyperbola.

And then, this is what I call kind of a horizontal hyperbola.

But a hyperbola is very close in formula to this.

And so there's two ways that a hyperbola could be written.

I think they're being hysterical, getting so alarmed over this.

Now for a hyperbola, you kind of see that there's a very close relation between the ellipse and the hyperbola, but it is kind of a fun thing to ponder about.

And a hyperbola, it's very close to an ellipse, you could probably guess that, because if this is the equation of an ellipse, this is the equation of a hyperbola. x squared over a squared minus y squared over b squared is equal to 1.

So the asymptotes are going to intersect at the center of our hyperbola, so to speak.

And then the bonus question is, which of these are going to be on?

The hyperbola is always going to have a higher slope than that line, a very slightly higher slope.

That's what I always like to do whenever I'm graphing a hyperbola.

This hyperbola, of course, is just centered at the origin.

That extra compression is going to be distributed through the whole balloon.

Or our hyperbola's going to open up and down.
