In October 2004 the Committee completed its restructuring.

Sustainable development

The Commission ran the 1998 legislative elections and the 1999 presidential election.

The Commission undertook a census of local weapons manufacturers in the country in order to regulate their activities.

The Bureau recommended the adoption of the organization of work of the Commission at its thirty eighth session.

At the same meeting, the Committee approved its organization of work, as orally revised.

One contribution proposes that the CRIC can could be held effectively and efficiently in one week.

Committee established pursuant to resolution 1267 (1999) concerning Al Qaida and the Taliban

In the period under review, the following international events were held under the auspices of the Committee

The Committee had been informed of the deaths of six men, who had been suspected of being members of Al Qaida.

Meanwhile, regional meetings and fora forums should be convened prior to each CRIC session, so as to provide useful information as the basis for discussions in the CRIC session

As to regional organizations, the Committee is about to convene an important concertation and information exercise in Almaty.

The Bureau was informed that UNFPA was planning to hold a side event during the period of sessions of the Commission.

The Bureau was also exploring the possibility of holding an informal interactive event jointly with the Second Committee.

The Committee considered the organization of its work at its 972nd meeting, held on 13 September 2004.

He therefore urged the Committee to continue organizing such seminars and special missions.

(g) Organizing and servicing the meetings of the Advisory Committee of Permanent Representatives and Other Representatives Designated by Members of the Commission and its informal working groups

The participants also discussed the proliferation of mandates and its potential impact on the Commission's time management.

The National Electoral Commission, with significant international support, successfully organized the local government elections in 2004.

The Commission requested the Subcommission to meet with a view to organizing its work, electing its officers and providing, on the basis of a preliminary examination of the submission, a time estimate for its work.

The Department would provide the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations with a comprehensive indication of how the Department and field missions could be configured.

In March 2005, ESCAP co organized a seminar on electronic business opportunities for women.

The Director informed the Commission that a second regional course was being organized for 12 developing States of the Indian Ocean region.

Member States continue to look to the Committee to give a lead in the global effort against Al Qaida and the Taliban.

Lastly, the General Assembly would be holding a high level dialogue on international migration and development, which the Committee had been asked to organize.

The Commission was assisted by international electoral experts, who together constituted the Joint Electoral Management Body overseeing the organization of the elections.

The Council held a discussion on sustainable development (agenda item 13 (a)) at its 32nd, 39th and 40th meeting, on 20, 26 and 27 July 2005 (see E 2005 SR.32, 39 and 40).

At its 1st meeting, the Committee approved its organization of work for the session as contained in annex II to document ICCD CRIC(3) 1, as orally amended by the Secretary of the CRIC.
