River mile zero may not be exactly at the mouth.

This loss to downstream countries would most likely be spread over several years.

The river is only navigable up to from the mouth, and only in the rainy season.

In the United States, a river mile is a measure of distance in miles along a river from its mouth.

Such leverage could in turn prompt a downstream state to build up its military capacity to help counterbalance this disadvantage.

Yet China rejects the very notion of water sharing or institutionalized cooperation with downriver countries.

Only about ten percent of the Amazon's water enters downstream of Óbidos, very little of which is from the northern slope of the valley.

It is fed by 23 rivers (8 in China and 15 in Russia), but the only outflow of the lake is the Songacha River.

General description

Even if smallholders are able to produce a surplus, their lack of access to downstream activities, such as processing and marketing, prevents them from selling it easily.

These are not agreements to cooperate on shared resources, but rather commercial accords to sell hydrological data that other upstream countries provide free to downriver states.
