The recruitment of additional personnel is well under way and the selection process will conclude in July.

11. Stresses that the staff selection system must provide transparency and fairness

The selection of permanent staff will commence on receipt of the recommendations of the Central Review Board.

But the goal is not just selecting employees (ideally within good companies).

This concern is reflected in Article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter, which governs the selection of staff.

One of the goals of the staff selection system introduced in May 2002 was to develop a speedier, more transparent system for filling vacancies.

Notes the intention of the Secretary General to establish a recruitment and staffing centre to support managers in the selection of staff and to enhance the consistency of recruitment across the Secretariat, and invites the Secretary General to submit proposals in the context of the proposed programme budget for the biennium 2008 2009

As a result of this integrated approach, DPI was able to play a major role in designing the information component of the Mission, selecting staff, determining the budget and laying out the blueprint for information activities.

With regard to staff selection, the delegations supported the proposal to reduce the period for submitting applications from 60 to 45 days, but feared that that measure would not be sufficient to address long delays in filling vacancies or the lack of succession planning.

12.5 Rural women and organizational structures
