The EU has begun applying Aarhus type principles in its legislation, notably the Water Framework Directive (Directive 2000 60 EC).

This applies in particular to the Water Framework Directive and the Common Agricultural Policy.

The provisions of the European Union Water Framework Directive and some 150 bilateral and multilateral agreements supplement these instruments.

The ultimate goal of the project is adoption of new water sector legislation, harmonized with that of the EU, particularly the Framework Directive on Water (Directive 2000 60 EC, European Parliament and Council, of 23 October 2000).

The European directive on water stipulates that all communities over 2,000 inhabitants have to have water purification facility and this directive is binding for all EU present and future member States, like Bosnia and Herzegovina.

These draft legislation were in line with European Union standards and principles and with all relevant international conventions and the Framework Directive for Water, especially through introduction of the principle of integral environment approach to river basin management.

The directive establishing a general framework for equal treatment in the workplace and the professions was adopted in October 2000.

To achieve its objective, the directive is accompanied by an energy tax directive,5 together with which it sets indicative targets for biofuel substitution and sets out a legal framework for fiscal and other national measures to promote biofuels.

Preparing integrated water resource management plans and creating an institutional and policy framework

While integrated water resource management provides an integrated framework for addressing water issues, countries will want to tailor integrated water resources management plans to their own particular water management needs and objectives.

Other EU legislation with potentially far reaching implications is currently under preparation, in particular a directive establishing a framework for setting eco design requirements for energy using products (EuP).

The publication of some additional information is encouraged, for example, in the EU public procurement directive (the EU directive ).

Integrated water resources management plans could provide a broad framework to encompass not only water supply and waste water treatment, but also the development of other options, such as demand side management and waste water recycling and reuse.

Directive 2000 31 EC of the European Union on electronic commerce ( the European Union Directive ), on the other hand, allowed the parties to prove the essence of the signature without abstractly proving the reliability of the technology.

Such a regulation is in line with standards eventually indicated by EC Directive 2000 54.
