In general, the analysis shows a sharp disparity in reporting between geographic regions and across development groups that are reflective of the differences in overall national statistical capacity.

The task force, after reporting progress to the bureau of the Voorburg Group at the end of 2005, will provide a briefing to the Statistical Commission in 2006.

At the 2004 Plenary, the Working Group on Statistics was tasked to undertake a study, in consultation with Participants, of aspects of national methodologies which constrain statistical reporting.

Review of country compilation and reporting practices. In 2006, the Statistics Division will conduct a comprehensive review of country practices in compilation and reporting of international merchandise trade statistics in order to assess their compliance with the current recommendations of the Statistical Commission.
