The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency was formed in 2003 with the merger of the Medicines Control Agency (MCA) and the Medical Devices Agency (MDA).

IAEA is also assisting the nuclear regulatory authority of Ukraine in the regulatory process of decommissioning the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and in the development of an approach for characterizing and managing radioactive residual material resulting from investigating the status of the shelter and its reconstruction and or repair.

It comes at a time when the Agency has assumed increasing responsibility for nuclear security.

c. In Item 15 on matrix p. 15 , China's national nuclear regulatory authority is the China Atomic Energy Authority of China.

That will include better harmonization of national regulatory approaches to ensure at all times high quality, independent oversight for nuclear activities.

Efforts are also required to correct the public perception of IAEA as being just a nuclear watchdog agency.
