Participants held a meeting with the Expanded Bureau of the sixty first session of the Commission on Human Rights.

Last year HDRO held a special network consultation to select the theme for the HDR 2005.

In this regard, the Bureau acknowledged the importance of joint meetings with the Bureaux of other functional commissions to foster the exchange of views.

At its thirtieth session, the Commission on Population and Development had authorized the Bureau, in preparation for its sessions, to hold intersessional meetings on a yearly basis.

In the period under review, the Bureau held panel discussions on the themes of Women and Leadership' and Positive Images of Women in the Media'.

The Office requested the notary to convene a so called case conference with the aim of determining the further necessary measures for promoting effective protection of the author and her children.

The Commission has before it the report of the Bureau on its intersessional meeting, held in Banjul on 19 and 20 December 2005.

Should the Conference hold more than one session, and unless the Conference decides otherwise, all officers shall serve for all sessions of the Conference.

The standing bureau will provide continuity and oversight of the Treaty on behalf of its members and is empowered to convene, pursuant to a consensus decision of its own, extraordinary sessions of the Conference of States Parties when situations arise that threaten the integrity or viability of the Treaty.

The Office has continued this practice of consultation, including several meetings with non governmental organizations between 2003 and 2005, and a first meeting with States parties on 20 June 2005 to discuss strategies and activities of the Office.

Locally, the Office of the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process convened regular coordination meetings of United Nations agencies and several extraordinary meetings on issues of special policy interest to the United Nations.

In cooperation with UNODC, the Institute is exploring the possibility of carrying out a study in the region, the findings of which would be disseminated throughout the region by means of seminars or workshops.

UNOPS is in discussions with the Department of Peacekeeping Operations and its cartographic section for the supply of SPOT data to the United Nations system contract for satellite imagery.

The Bureau took note of the meeting of the Bureau of the Economic and Social Council with the Chairpersons of the functional commissions of the Council held in New York on 19 July 2004 during the Council's substantive session.

The Bureau decided to consult the various regional groups and to revert to the issue before the start of the thirty eighth session of the Commission, by conducting either a discussion via e mail or a meeting in New York.

Bureau members decided to hold consultations with their respective regional groups regarding the best way to proceed during the period of transition to the election of a Bureau at the end rather than at the start of each session of the Commission.

In particular, the Office has been taking part as an observer in the Commonwealth Expert Group on Asset Repatriation, which held two meetings, in June and November 2004, respectively.

The Bureau recommended that the Population Division continue to convene technical meetings to shed light on key population concerns of the international community, including those related to the special themes discussed annually by the Commission.

The Office of Internal Oversight Services recommended the establishment of a separate budget unit within the Executive Office.
