On 1 September, the eighteenth quarterly report on the activities of the United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC) (S 2004 693) was circulated in compliance with paragraph 12 of resolution 1284 (1999) of the Security Council.

Mr. Qazi introduced the Secretary General's latest quarterly report, updated the Council on recent developments in the political process and the activities of the United Nations in Iraq.

As stated in the previous quarterly report (S 2005 351), of the 411 sites inspected in the period from November 2002 to March 2003, post war high resolution imagery has been examined for 378 sites, including those considered the most important.

I would like to express my gratitude for the report of the Secretary General that we have before us today, which contains UNMIK's second quarterly technical assessment of standards implementation in Kosovo.

The Security Council also invites the 1540 Committee to pursue its undertakings as provided in its first trimestrial programme of work approved by the Committee on 22 April 2005.
