In the Financial Services Section, reinforcing staffing is a matter of priority given the critical importance of the financial accounting function and of the related financial activities.

The Financial Services Section provides comprehensive financial services for the Fund's operations through its Payments, Accounts and Cashier units.

Objective 4. Revision and restructuring of accounting function within the Financial Services Section and the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund.

MINURSO intends to set up, within existing financial and human resources, a joint (military civilian) section to manage and update the information management system.

However, because of economic difficulties and the negligible number of minor girls serving sentences at present, they are being kept with adults in the women's correctional labour colony, but in a separate section.

The two other posts are requested for the Claims Management Section to provide functions related to memorandums of understanding, contingent owned equipment and claims for reimbursement for MINUSTAH, ONUB and UNOCI (ibid., paras.

Responsibility for maintaining the accounting manual and the procedures of the Financial Services Section together with other units and in conjunction with the business analyst of the Financial Services Section as necessary, would also be ascribed to the Unit.

The Finance and Information Systems Section comprises 7 posts 2 Professional and 5 General Service (Other level).

The current structure and organization of the financial accounting function has been the subject of numerous audit observations in respect of its appropriateness and the manner in which the responsibility for it is spread across the Financial Services Section and the Fund.

Operations comprises the Pension Entitlements and Client Services Section and the Financial Services Section, both of which are located in New York, as well as the operational activities of the Geneva Office.

Previous positions include head of the committee reviewing tax law Assistant to the Director, Income Tax Department and head of Income Tax Section, Financial Affairs Department.
