The High Level Dialogue on International Migration and Development scheduled to be held in the General Assembly in 2006 would offer an opportunity to discuss those issues and to share experience and exchange information on migration flows.

Noting in particular the need for more migration data, analysis of factors influencing international migration and of its impact, and a better understanding of the complex interrelationships between migration and development,

The international community needed to recognize the nexus between international migration and development, and the challenges and opportunities that migration presented to both sending and receiving countries.

We acknowledge the important nexus between international migration and development and the need to deal with the challenges and opportunities that migration presents to countries of origin, destination and transit.

There was currently no international mechanism to deal with the complex linkages between migration and development.

It was suggested that a special subsection on international migration and development be included. That subsection should contain recommendations regarding the causes of migration, particularly relative to those areas where economic growth and sustainable development could be fostered by international cooperation.

In that regard, we are heartened that the outcome document of the recently concluded summit has referred to the issue of migration and that the next session of the General Assembly will discuss the issue of migration and development.

Acknowledging the important nexus between international migration and development and the need to deal with the challenges and opportunities that migration presents to countries of origin, transit and destination, and recognizing that migration brings benefits as well as challenges to the global community,
