(h) Revision of the standardized tool kit for the identification and quantification of dioxin and furan releases

(a) To provide general information and training on sampling and analytical techniques of dioxins and furans in environmental samples

The university enjoys facilities and expertise to conduct research in POPs monitoring, including analysis of dioxins and furans.

(b) To provide training on assessment and evaluation of public awareness techniques about dioxins and furans and looking at alternate ways of dealing with organic waste

The first component of the study provided the participants with some understanding of the sampling and analytical methods used for monitoring dioxins and furans.

Table I provides a summary of emissions of the most important greenhouse gases (with the exception of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), chlorocarbons (CCs) and halons) in Germany in 1990.

In addition, three non governmental organizations were invited to join the training workshop and describe their experiences and explain how their organizations could contribute to raising awareness on issues pertaining to the release of dioxins and furans.

It might be possible to provide metering for individual items of manufacturing equipment (e.g. an induction furnace) to detect frequency and duration of use or to monitor the purchasing of certain chemicals common to production and finishing operations, such as chlorinated volatile organic compounds.

The contact group on crematoria and destruction of animal carcasses focused first on crematoria, noting that active carbon injection applied for mercury control also led to dioxin reduction and would be included in the guidelines.
