The Committee recommends that the State party's reports be made readily available to the public from the time they are submitted and that the observations of the Committee on these reports be similarly publicized.

The Human Rights Committee has been addressing the right to self determination when considering the periodic reports of States parties.

Many participants indicated that they did not favour a system of periodic reports, which they considered to be too unwieldy.

In its continued effort to enhance its methods of work, the Committee prepared lists of issues and questions for initial as well as periodic reports.

The Committee recommends to the State party that it make its periodic reports available to the public and that the conclusions of the Committee be publicized in the same way.

The Committee monitors the implementation of the Covenant by examining periodic reports submitted by the 150 States parties and making general recommendations to the Council.
