The process of clearing certain goods through customs within the Sudan has improved substantially.

In one case mentioned, customs modernization helped to reduce clearance time from 18 days to less than one day.

Similarly the customs department has instituted a computerized program known as the automated system for customs data (ASYCUDA), which integrates customs and clearing and forwarding activities.

Precious stones and metals are subject to the same customs procedures as all goods in accordance with the customs clearance procedures established in the Central American Uniform Customs Code (CAUCA) and its regulation (RECAUCA).

(a) The import of goods into the Kingdom is subject to no condition other than the requirement for an importer's identification card to be produced when the goods are cleared through customs and for duty to be paid in accordance with the relevant regulations

The additional requirements were due mainly to the unexpected sharp increase in the cost of clearing the Mission's goods at the port as a result of changing to a new customs clearing agent who charged more than the previous agent.
