In my last report, I informed the Council about mines that had been newly laid on certain roads in the adjacent areas of Sector West, on the Ethiopian side.

To perform nuclear activities without license, fail to report or else breach the Law, Ordinance or Regulations is criminalised.

In paragraph 58 of its report, the Board encouraged the Pension Fund to strengthen controls of the accounting function and the reporting of investment activity.

He noted the need for harmonization of reporting requirements and expressed concern about the decrease in the share of UNCTAD technical cooperation activities devoted to LDCs.

The Expert Group discussed at length options to improve the reporting system on DDT and compared the experiences from similar data collection activities, such as the reporting on the access to safe drinking water supply and basic sanitation that ensued from the International Decade for Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation (1981 1990).

Because competent and comprehensive reporting of information about government activities is basic to accountability, some important lessons can be learned in this early stage of the process.

On average, over 60 per cent of States responding to the questionnaire for the three reporting periods indicated that demand reduction activities were based on an assessment of the drug abuse situation (prevalence estimates, school surveys, treatment reporting system etc.).

As Chairman of the 1540 Committee, I will continue to raise the issue of further reporting through the outreach activities that the Committee intends to conduct in the near future.

There is a need for an appropriate investment in the reporting and evaluation processes as it affects the quality and timeliness of reporting.

A total of 90 States replied to the questions in section VII of the biennial reports questionnaire for the third reporting period, compared with 109 in the first reporting period and 116 in the second reporting period.

The frequency and quality of the reporting has also improved.
