I should also like to pay a tribute to the Secretary General and to his endeavours to promote the principles of the Charter and a stronger United Nations.

Here, I should like to commend the essential role played by the international community in the upturn in my country's political and economic situation.

Let me also commend Mr. Jean Ping for the able manner in which he conducted the work of the Assembly during his presidency.

In that connection, I should like to commend the valuable contribution made to the negotiations made by the United Nations Moderator, Mr. Jean Arnault.

I take this opportunity to commend all countries that continue to make contributions to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

I wish to commend them, as well as their international partners, for their invaluable contribution to the cause of peace and stability in the Sudan.

I commend all those countries that have actively been promoting, at the world level, the cause of human rights.

I should also commend you for the leadership you provided at the High level Plenary Meeting over the past three days.

Allow me to commend the Co Chairpersons and thank them for their fine handling of the Meeting and their efforts to ensure the Meeting's success.

I should especially like to applaud the efforts of the Secretary General and those of his collaborators under whose auspices talks have been held with Indonesia aimed at settling this issue.
