Sanctions, embargoes, and diplomatic isolation are the absolute minimum in terms of what is required.

Measures also have to be taken to ensure strict compliance with United Nations embargoes and sanctions in conflict areas.

The EU therefore supports the Secretary General's recommendations on improved enforcement of Security Council sanctions, especially arms embargoes.

The relevant economic sanctions and arms embargoes are listed in annexes of the general guidelines for export, transit and brokerage of defence materiel, which are kept up to date by the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
