Michael J. Flynn (born May 20, 1934) is an American professor emeritus at Stanford University.

Pinker accepts that reason is an important factor underlying the trends that he describes. In support of this claim, he refers to the Flynn Effect the remarkable finding by the philosopher James Flynn that since IQ tests were first administered, scores have risen considerably.

As the stems grow a layer of cells form under the epidermis, called the cork cambium, these cells produce cork cells that turn into cork.

They stated that the Flynn effect is caused primarily by environmental factors and that it's unlikely these same environmental factors play an important role in explaining group differences in IQ.
