OIOS and the Department of Peacekeeping Operations are currently discussing the operation of proposed Personnel Conduct Units in a number of peacekeeping operations.

The Steering Committee shall submit the report of the review of OIOS to the Under Secretary General for Internal Oversight Services.

The General Assembly decides to defer to its sixtieth session consideration of the report of the Office of Internal Oversight Services on the review of the operations and management of United Nations libraries.

164. We recognize the urgent need to substantially improve the United Nations oversight and management processes. We emphasize the importance of ensuring the operational independence of the Office of Internal Oversight Services. Therefore

With regard to internal audit coverage, it would like to know whether OIOS had hired individuals with the skills needed to examine the highly complex operations of the Fund.

C. Status of Office of Internal Oversight Services recommendations

Approval of the appointment of the Under Secretary General for Internal Oversight Services

The Department is cooperating closely with OIOS, which, under General Assembly resolution 59 287, is in charge of investigating allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse in peacekeeping operations.

(b) A global review of the state of discipline in peacekeeping operations conducted by the Office of Internal Oversight Services, the results of which are currently being analysed

At the request of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations, the Office of Internal Oversight Services launched an investigation into these allegations, and a number of the allegations were substantiated.

(d) We authorize the Office of Internal Oversight Services to examine the feasibility of expanding its services to provide internal oversight to United Nations agencies that request such services in such a way as to ensure that the provision of internal oversight services to the Secretariat will not be compromised.

The work of the Internal Oversight Group is focused on the activities normally associated with internal auditing.

The UNHCR Internal Audit Service Office of Internal Oversight Services conducted a review of the UNHCR implementing partners' audit certification of subprojects for the year 2004.
