Because of the significant responsibility, the post should be upgraded from P 4 to P 5.

The Political Affairs Unit will be headed by a Senior Political Affairs Officer (an existing P 5 position), supported by two Political Affairs Officers (a P 4 existing position and an additional P 3) and an Administrative Research Assistant (General Service (Local level)).

7.13 Resources in the Registry will be augmented by the addition of two new posts (1 P 4 and 1 P 3).

The post of the other officer should also be upgraded from P 4 to P 5 because of the expansion of the responsibility to cover the entire European market.

4. Further decides to establish, effective 1 January 2001, eight additional security officer (Field Service) posts (four P 4 and four P 3) and sixteen additional Local level posts

Therefore, the request for upgrading the three P 4 posts to P 5 has been presented, rather than a request for a new P 5 post.

The staffing table also includes the creation of two National Programme Officer and eight Local level posts in the field offices, one General Service (Other level) for programme support at headquarters, as well as two General Service (Principal level) and seven General Service (Other level) positions under management and administration.

33. Decides to enhance the capacity for threat and risk assessment by establishing one P 4, two P 3 and one General Service post in addition to the existing P 5 post, and further decides that this capacity will be located in the Office of the Director of Regional Operations

Currently, the Unit has two Professional posts in the regular budget, one at the P 5 level for the Chief of Unit and another at the P 3 level.

Step XI at levels G 3 to G 7, step X at level G 2 and step IX at level G 1 are long service steps.
