The goal is to separate agricultural commodities and non commodity outputs as much as possible.

In 2004, total merchandise exports of the ESCWA member countries reached 297 billion, while total imports reached 194 billion.

And Russia, despite a very well educated population, continues to be reliant on commodity industries for economic growth.

The first of these is jointness, or the extent to which the intended agricultural product and the incidental non commodity outputs of agricultural activity are linked.

E. Expenditures for population activities by category of activity

Direct and indirect measures to reduce dependence on commodity exports and to reduce the impact of commodity price instability are thus crucial if Africa is to meet the Millennium Development Goals.

Those were core activities of the Organization and should receive adequate funding in the regular budget.
