Some time ago I went out on a date with a man. He started the conversation, perhaps to appease me, by asking if I knew whether the Geneva III talks will be held soon.

What impressed me most is how passionately this generation of future leaders felt about the relevance and capacity of the UN system.

Three years ago, I met John Hanke, who's the head of Google Earth, and I told him how much I loved being able to hold the world in my hands and go exploring vicariously.

It's taken several years to now look at it detached and say as you walk around the corner and a piece of it works with the road and the street, and it appears to have a relationship that I started to like it.

And a testament to this is the thing that most amazes me, most impresses me, and most uplifts me, which is that there is a moral dimension to history there is a moral arrow. We have seen moral progress over time.

I have to admire the third Baltic president Vaira Vike Freiberga from Latvia who decided to go to Moscow, honouring what should be honoured, and speaking aloud about what should not be hidden.

Finally, I wish to pay tribute to you, Mr. Secretary General, and to reiterate my admiration for having inspired our deliberations but also for the courage and exemplary tenacity with which you have guided, even in the tumult, the work of the United Nations at this crucial time in our history.
