In the context of integrated oceans management, Pacific Island Forum members welcome the renewal of the mandate of the United Nations Open ended Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea.

In the view of the Advisory Committee, it is for the General Assembly itself to decide upon such issues as the mandate, composition, selection process and qualification of experts of the new committee.

The Advisory Committee regrets that, owing to the protracted nature of the review process, the impact of the reduced mandate of the Mission on the administrative and civilian components was not established in time for the preparation of the 2005 06 budget.

The Advisory Committee is not convinced that a full two work months of consultancy services would be required.

The Advisory Committee recommends that further thought should be given to the membership and terms of reference of such a consultative body.
