The primary economic sectors were agriculture (grain being the chief cash crop) and animal husbandry.

28. The major measures adopted under the farming and livestock raising policies may be classified in three groups

Initiatives under way include help for the environment, assistance to develop a remote sensing facility to provide early warning of drought, support for the development of agricultural research, help with millet processing, training of farmers, animal traction, forestry and bee keeping.

Agriculture is generally based on the dairy trade, and cattle are the predominant livestock.

One delegation noted that small scale fisheries were at times in conflict with industrial fishing and aquaculture.

These involve a variety of agricultural and stockbreeding activities, linked to actions for the strengthening of civil society.

The Government also organized appropriate training programmes for rural women, teaching them the techniques of kitchen gardening, pond fishery, backyard poultry farming, plantation of fruit trees, goat and cattle raising, and the small scale preservation of various food items, such as fruit and vegetables.

Our delegation wishes to stress that a priority area for the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is regulation of the fisheries sector and aquaculture, for which we have developed a broad set of legal technical norms, contained in the law on fisheries and aquaculture.

In the minds of women preservation of family and raising of children are their priority tasks, placed in the sphere of strict privacy.

These experiments are conducted in sectors such as agriculture, stockbreeding, water resources, sanitation, land management, forest protection and energy.

An agricultural officer trained in the United Kingdom is employed by the Government to supervise local activities in agriculture and animal husbandry.
