I endorse the proposal and strongly recommend that we adopt it.

The funds have been recovered and disciplinary measures have been recommended to the Secretary General

43. With regard to international migration, the processes leading to increasing migration pressures were reviewed and it was recommended that trade barriers be reduced and investment in countries of origin be increased to reduce those pressures.

30. It was further recommended that UNESCO and other organizations of the United Nations system should give priority to eliminating female illiteracy and to monitoring efforts to ensure that women have equal access to all levels of education and training.

The situation of the Christian minority in Senegal was referred to and it was recommended that the Government should consider adopting a prevention strategy to curb religious intolerance, focusing on education and dialogue, and that the African Union should establish specific mechanisms for the protection of the rights of minorities.

It was recommended that particular attention be given to the status of indigenous women and to identify effective ways and means to integrate indigenous women into the decision making, coordination and implementation of plans, programmes and activities of the Second Decade.

Recommendations for action included the creation of an Assyrian Administrative Region to safeguard the cultural, linguistic and religious rights of Assyrians, and an independent commission to handle claims and disputes concerning minorities in the Kurdish controlled areas of northern Iraq.

In the light of the conditions prevailing in the area, I support the extension and recommend that the Security Council extend the mandate of UNIFIL until 31 January 2006 with no changes to the strength and composition of the Force.
