Despite the fact that women are still underrepresented in the political parties and that their participation in decision making is still small, some progress has been made in their representation in the legislative bodies constituted after the elections.

Wherever women continued to be underrepresented in political life, or denied quality education on a par with men, they would be unable to contribute to the economic development of their communities and society as a whole would suffer.

Concerning the voice and participation of developing countries in international economic decision making, there was a consensus in the Bretton Woods institutions on the need to address the underrepresentation of developing countries in numerical terms and in terms of the amount of assistance received.
